Practice

About the Practice

We are a large, long established training group practice looking after approximately 20,000 patients in the Stourbridge area. The practice extends to cover Stourbridge, Wollaston, Amblecote, Pedmore, Wollescote and parts of West Hagley and Stourton, an area which encompasses Dudley, South Staffs and Hereford and Worcestershire Health Authorities.

We offer a wide variety of up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic services in a modern setting and friendly environment. The main surgery is situated at 24 Worcester Street and many of our in-house clinics are run from our second site at No1 Worcester Street.

This building is also a dedicated medical training unit for both medical students and qualified doctors. All of our doctors are involved in clinical teaching.

Test Results

Please phone for any results after 2.00pm when the staff will have more time to help you.

Anticoagulation Clinics

We are pleased to inform you that we now hold anticoagulation clinics at the practice on Friday afternoons. These clinics are run by nursing staff from the Anticoagulation Team at Russells Hall and Corbett Hospitals.

If you are interested in attending these clinics for your checks, please discuss this at the hospital when you have your next blood test.

Please note – appointments are generated and managed from the Anticoagulation Clinic at the hospital only and not by Worcester Street Surgery.

For enquiries, please contact the Anticoag Team on 01384 244048

Patient Choice

Should you need to be referred for secondary care treatment, you will have the option to select which hospital or secondary care centre you wish to attend to have your treatment. Patients are advised to speak to their GP at the point of referral, who will be able to provide you with the options that are available in each circumstance.

EMIS Access: Your Virtual Receptionist

EMIS Access is a 24 hour online service that can be used at any time of the day or night. You can use it to view, book or cancel appointments at the surgery from home, work or on the move. It can also be used to order repeat prescriptions, amend your practice registration details or send secure messages straight to the practice. You can even access the service from internet enabled mobile phones. Register at reception, so you can take advantage of this new development.

Facilities for the Disabled

Access to the building is via a concrete ramp. A toilet for the disabled is situated on the ground floor. If you are unable to climb stairs please let us know so that you can be seen downstairs.

The surgery has a limited number of disabled car parking spaces at the front of No.22 Worcester Street (next door to the main surgery).

Teaching

We are a teaching practice for both University of Birmingham medical students and GP registrars. The latter, who are doctors having already had extensive hospital service and hoping to enter general practice, may be invited to join the practice for six to twelve months to gain insight into general practice. They are very capable, fully qualified doctors. Some surgeries are videoed but always with patients' consent. Please accept them as one of us. As we also teach medical students, at our medical training centre based at No 1 Worcester Street, you may sometimes be asked if you mind a student sitting in on a consultation.

Volunteers Required

Do you have time to talk to one of our medical students?
As a teaching practice medical students from Birmingham Medical School regularly visit the surgery as part of their training to become doctors.

At the surgery we like to give them the opportunity to talk to patients about their particular illness or problem.  This gives the students a valuable insight into living with a long-term illness, and the effects it can have on both the patient and their families.

Clinical Skills Sessions

We are always looking for volunteers to help with the students’ clinical skills sessions.  This allows students to practice taking blood pressure, visual acuity and reflexes.  These sessions are always supervised by one of our doctors.

If you have an illness you feel you could discuss with one of our students, or would like to volunteer for one of the skills sessions.
Please leave your name at Reception at either the Main Surgery or the Medical Training Centre or tel 01384 370713.

Comments and Complaints

Your valued comments on how to improve our service should be posted in the suggestion box in the main waiting room. Any problems that arise with the service can be addressed to our practice manager or to any doctor.
